Sherise N. Paul is a proud mother of two products of the Mi’kmaq Immersion Program: Keane & Elle (ages 15 & 5yrs). She has taught at the Eskasoni Elementary & Middle School in Grade 7 for the past 10 years. Sherise is a 2011 Masters of Education in Administration & Leadership graduate of St FX. She and Starr Sock are in the final editing stages of completing their thesis entitled,Fluency, Identity and Student Achievement: An In-depth Study of the Mi’kmaq Immersion Program in One Community . Through her research, she hopes to support other Mi’kmaq communities to implement immersion programs in their schools. In addition, Sherise works for AAEDIRP and St FX as a researcher to promote Mi’kmaq language and Mi’kmaq Immersion programs. She is the recipient of the 2010 Grand Chief Donald Marshall Sr. Award in recognition of her dedication to the Mi’kmaq language and culture. In summer 2012 Sherise plans to enrol in the PhD program at St.FX to further advocate for Mi’kmaq language revitalization.
